You will find two types of fuel cards commercial fuel cards and retail fuel cards. Both of the types provide effective and efficient ways in reducing administrative costs, time and security. Commercial rate fuel cards enable fuel to be purchased at a lower price than that shown on the pump. A good example is whereby a leading commercial fuel card supplier quotes a weekly price per litre for fuel in advance. With retail fuel card, fuel is charged at normal pump price for the particular outlet where it is bought and that one gets an invoice instead of the traditional receipts. Retail fuel cards are accepted at most service stations. The challenge with retail fuel card is that one pays for fuel as quoted in every filling or gas station unlike the commercial fuel card where weekly prices are quoted in advance. It is therefore, advisable for an organization or individual to opt for a commercial fuel card.

Fuel cards use smart chip technology and therefore can limit the number of transactions made. This way, fraudulent activities can be limited since one can only fuel the vehicle up to a certain number of litres. Another advantage of fuel cards is that they are made in a way that they can allow the purchase of one or more types of fuel depending with an individual’s needs. Unlike credit cards, which a staff member can use to buy a snack or magazine, fuel cards do not allow that. They also reduce paperwork since all transactions are visible online.

The classifications of vehicle tracking systems are passive and active. Passive devices store GPS location. When the vehicle returns or arrives at its destination, the device is removed and data downloaded to a computer for evaluation purposes. On the other hand, active devices transmit data in real time through satellite network to a computer. Many organizations are interested in emerging cell phone technologies, which enables tracking of multiple things for instance, the vehicle, texts, calls etc and generally the safety of the driver and the vehicle.

Real time tracking systems ensures the monitoring of vehicles wherever they are at whatever time needed.  Real time tracking is actually a way of tracking something or someone in real time using an internet connected computer. If one installs a GPS tracking device in his car and the car is stolen, then they can see where their car is instantly. Real time GPS tracking is composed of three subdivisions namely space element, control station and the users of the system.
